Microsoft’s new Skype bot Project Murphy can merge two things into one

Microsoft launched support for text chat bots in Skype earlier this week and now a new bot made by the company is showing off what these AI creations can do. ”Project Murphy” adds a new bot to your Skype contacts and then you can ask it ”What if…” questions. The end result is a merging of two images that attempts to answer that question. Microsoft says that ”Project Murphy” was a result of combining several of the company’s services, such as Bing Image Search, Microsoft Bot Framework, Azure Stream Analytics, Azure Data Lake and PowerBI. That was it. Project ’Murphy’ was born. We enlisted the help of a few friends from across Microsoft, and over the last weeks, we built Murphy together. ” The Murphy …

What is a SIM card and what does it do?

What exactly is a SIM card? You know, the little piece of plastic found in the metal pullout on the right side of your iPhone or cellular iPad? The short answer: it’s a Subscriber Identity Module, a small circuit board in most modern phones to communicate with your carrier. Practically speaking, it is a middleman between two pieces of hardware: the phone’s baseband chip, and your carrier’s cell towers, allowing the two to communicate. SIM cards allow you to travel between phones with your phone number and data plans; when you upgrade to a new iPhone, the SIM card travels (as long as it is the same size). But while SIM cards themselves may be portable, they only work in certain phones. We’ll explain why in a bit. A SIM card is internationally identified by its Integrated circuit card identifier (ICC-ID), which is engraved on the body of the card. Office for Mac will soon support third-party add-in programs

As part of Microsoft’s Build 2016 developer conference, the company revealed that Office users on the Mac will soon be able to access the many third-party add-in programs that have been released for those apps. Microsoft stated: Since introducing a new Office add-in platform with Office 2013, we’ve collaborated with companies like Uber, Yelp and PickIt, whose services are integrated directly into Office. Today, we’re excited to announce the extension of add-ins to Office for Mac (available later this spring), centralized deployment and programmatic creation of solution-specific ribbons and buttons. For example, Starbucks is developing an Outlook add-in that allows people to send Starbucks e-gifts within Outlook and schedule meetings at nearby Starbucks locations instead of a conference room. Verizon set to add new $20 charge to smartphone upgrades [Update]

Update: In a statement to Droid Life, Verizon confirmed the move, saying: ”The upgrade fee helps cover our increased support costs associated with customers switching devices. The fee for upgrading on device payment is still half of the two-year contract upgrade fee.” Original story: Verizon is reportedly preparing to implement a new upgrade fee for most of its customers. While customers on two-year contracts currently pay $40 to upgrade their device, the carrier will apparently implement a new $20 charge for upgrades on device payment plans, as well as those upgrades purchased for their full retail price, beginning Monday, April 4. A supposed Verizon memo, obtained by MacRumors, outlines the changes. As noted in the memo, Verizon claims that the charge is necessitated by ”increasing support costs associated with customers switching their devices.” The on…
