Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is now available on Nintendo Switch, and while much of the content is the same as it is on Wii U, there are a few changes, like most (but not all) of the characters, karts, tires, and gliders are already unlocked.

If you’re setting up a multiplayer race to compete against your buddies for the first time, here are a few things to help you make the best race of your life.

How to select your controllers

Afer you’ve selected the type of multiplayer race — Grand Prix, Vs Race, or Battle — you’ll have to pick the controllers you’ll use to play the game.

Luckily, your Switch will automatically check for the type of controllers you are using to play a multiplayer game. Whether you have two, three, or four players, you’ll be asked to register each controller by pressing the R and L buttons simultaneously. In the original Mario Kart 8, drift boosting had two stages. The blue sparks gave you a quick bump in speed for a second, but if you held that drift until the sparks turned orange, the bump in speed was noticeably better. Apple is looking to make some changes to California’s self-driving car testing policy. As first noted by Reuters, Apple is looking for California to clarify or change its positions on certain testing regulations in order to make easier for self-driving vehicles to reach public acceptance.

From Apple’s letter:

Apple believes that public acceptance is essential to the advancement of automated vehicles. Access to transparent and intuitive data on the safety of the vehicles being tested will be central to gaining public acceptance. However, the current and proposed disengagement reporting requirements do not achieve this result.

In particular, Apple takes issue with current rules about disengagement reporting and testing without a safety driver, along with some definitions. In the case of definitions Apple seems to be seeking these changes so that these regulations don’t hinder the company’s development of additional technologies that could improve self-driving vehicles.

The Mac malware scam, Dok, has been blocked, but you should still watch out for suspicious emails.

Update: Apple has revoked the developer certificate, so it will now trigger a notification that you are about to install a program from an unidentified developer.

Check Point Technologies has released detailed information about a new malware attack that is directed at Mac users. It’s being called Dok and it has the potential to access a user’s online communication, including secure sites. According to Check Point, it affects all versions of OS X.

This new malware – dubbed OSX/Dok — affects all versions of OSX, has 0 detections on VirusTotal (as of the writing of these words), is signed with a valid developer certificate (authenticated by Apple) [strikethrough added], and is the first major scale malware to target OSX users via a coordinated email phishing campaign.

Instead of unlocking secret items to give you an advantage like you do in Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, amiibo unlock cosmetic upgrades in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. It’s a nice way of standing out in a multiplayer race if you don’t feel like using one of the infamous Nintendo characters, and great for showing off in local matches with other Switch users.
