Apple granted a patent for a wireless charging case for Apple Watch

Can’t get enough of wireless charging? Neither can Apple — they’ve officially been granted a patent for a wireless charging case for Apple Watch similar to the one already in production for AirPods.

It’s pretty common knowledge at this point that Apple is releasing a special wireless charging case for AirPods later this year. Exciting, right? However, it’s recently become apparent that Apple isn’t stopping there: according to a report by Patently Apple, Apple has been granted a patent for an Apple Watch charging case that will function similarly to the highly anticipated AirPods case. Basically, it’ll be a way to safely store your watch when you aren’t wearing it, and it’ll recharge it as well.

If a charging case sounds a bit redundant — especially with he upcoming release of the AirPower charging mat — it looks like it may be more than just another option for re-energizing your device. According to the patent itself, the case is designed to hold the watch …

How to use motion controls in Doom for Nintendo Switch

Here’s how to get moving with motion controls in Doom for the Nintendo Switch

When Bethesda released Doom for the Nintendo Switch, it was a miracle all on its own. Surely they used some sort of voodoo magic to squeeze a game like Doom onto such a petite console. It may not be a completely perfect port of the watershed shooter, but it’s undeniably cool to play Doom on the go. As if its very existence on the Switch wasn’t cool enough, Bethesda recently dropped an update for the game which adds motion control.

If you want to burn just a few more calories while you’re taking out monsters, then you might want to consider utilizing the newly minted motion controls. Before you know it, you will be waving your arms around like a mad person as you take down the bad guys.

How to enable motion control for Doom

If you’re ready to get into the motion game, it’s totally easy to do. The first requirement is to ensure that you have the latest update installed. Just select Doom on your home scr…

Fluidstance has a new extra-cushy balance board for your standing desk

My favorite standing desk accessory just got a little more comfortable.

I’m still pretty happy with my Fluidstance Plane Scandi, the almost-a-hoverboard standing desk accessory that made me finally love standing while working. But Fluidstance’s newest board, the Plane Cloud, has me dreaming.

The board is almost identical to my beloved Scandi, save for one crucial difference: It has a cushy foam top (not unlike a standing mat). My knees don’t cry out in pain on the Scandi the way they do standing on a flat floor, but I’ve definitely noticed stiffness and soreness over time; the Cloud’s foam base should alleviate those sorts of aches and pains for the more-sensitive type.

I’ll be picking up one of these pretty soon to review; in the meantime, if you’re interested, you can pick up the Cloud for $189 from Fluidstance right now — the company offers a 30-day guarantee, so you can try out the board and send it back if it’s not the experience you want.

Apple stock reaches highest price ever after Warren Buffett’s praise

The iPhone maker’s stock price reached an all-time high today after the famed billionaire investor says one of his companies has purchased more shares of Apple than any other stock.

According to the NASDAQ, Apple’s stock price officially reached an all-time high of slightly above its previous record of $180.10 earlier today. While AAPL has been on the rise since plummeting to $150.24 on February 9 according to MacRumors, many are attributing the record high to billionaire investor Warren Buffett.

In a conversation with CNBC among talk of basketball and his annual letter to shareholders, Buffett commended Apple. He revealed that his multinational company Berkshire Hathaway has purchased more shares of Apple than any other stock in the last year, saying that Apple has an ”extraordinary consumer franchise”:

I like Tim Cook very much. I like their policies. I see how strong that ecosystem is. It’s to an extraordinary degree.

Berkshire Hathaway now holds 65.3 million shares of A…

How to add joysticks to HTC Vive wands

There’s a solution for those who feel the touchpad is lacking.

The HTC Vive is one of the premier PC-based VR systems on the market, and part of the full package are two motion controllers, colloquially called ”wands.” Each wand has a touchpad on it that allows for locomotion and menu navigation, and while it works well, some feel that a joystick makes a bit more sense. If you include yourself in that camp, I have a solution that can help easily (and cheaply) add joysticks to your wands.

See Vive at Microsoft Store

3D-printed Vive wand joysticks

A GIF was posted in the Reddit Gaming subreddit showing a plastic joystick being clipped onto a Vive wand, and ever since, creator Eisenmeower has been getting slammed by orders on their ebay page. A single joystick costs only about $7.50, and pretty much everyone who’s ordered one has enjoyed it without much issue.

OneCast lets you stream Xbox One games to your Mac

Now you can stream your Xbox One games to your Mac without any complicated workarounds.

Microsoft has allowed Xbox One gamers to stream their games to Windows 10 via the Xbox app since 2015, but Mac users have so far been left out. A new app called OneCast is aiming to break that barrier by allowing game streaming to macOS (via 9to5Mac).

Much like game streaming on Windows 10, OneCast requires you to be connected to the same network as your Xbox One to get started. Once you sign in with your Microsoft account and connect a controller (either over Bluetooth or via USB), OneCast will stream your Xbox dashboard over your home network to your Mac. The app supports 1080p streaming and can run in either full screen or windowed mode. It also supports multiple profiles, so you can switch between different Xbox One consoles and gamertags at will.

OneCast is certainly an interesting option, particularly compared to the usual workaround of using a Parallels virtual machine or a Boot Camp pa…

How to use the CD or DVD drive from another computer on your Mac

You may not have an optical drive on your daily Mac, but that doesn’t mean you can’t access files from a CD or DVD.

One of the things I missed the most when I replaced my late 2012 MacBook Pro with my brand new MacBook Pro is the optical drive. I didn’t really use it that often, but I did use it, and I knew I’d miss it. Yes, an external CD/DVD drive works just fine and iCloud (as well as other cloud-based services) have made it easy to transfer files digitally. But in a pinch, you might just want to access files from a disc on another computer.

This is where Remote Disc comes in. It’s a Mac feature that lets you view and access files on a Mac or PC with an optical drive from a Mac that doesn’t have one. Here’s how to set up and use it.

The minimum requirements
