Facebook’s ’Scrapbooks’ feature helps parents organize pictures of their kids

Facebook rolled out a new feature today called ”Scrapbooks” that lets parents more easily create and organize photo albums of their children.

Scrapbooks adds quite a few new options for managing photos of your kids with special tags and the option to share a scrapbook with your significant other. Here’s a breakdown of the Scrapbook features from Facebook:

  • You can opt to co-own the scrapbook with a partner who you’re in a relationship with on Facebook.
  • You choose what you call the tag—it could be your child’s name, initials or something fun.
  • You and your partner choose which photos to tag.
  • Only you and your partner can tag your child in photos.
  • We’ve built in lots of reminders and tips to guide you along the way.

To get started with creating a scrapbook of your child, you head to the ”About” section of your profile, then click or tap on the ”Family and Relationships” section. From there, you can select ”Add Scrapbook” next to your kid’s name if you’ve already added him or her as a family member on your profile.

Overall, this looks like a fun way to keep pictures of your kids organized on Facebook. The company says that the feature has started rolling out to users on the web and iOS today, so it may still take some to hit your profile.

Apple starts taking Apple Watch app submissions from all developers

Apple announced today that it will start accepting submissions for Apple Watch app updates from all developers.

This follows the release of the first Apple Watch-enabled apps onto the App Store last week. However, where those updates were only for select partner apps, today’s announcement opens the door for all developers to submit their Apple Watch updates.

The announcement was made via Apple’s developer portal for the Apple Watch, which also details several guidelines to creating apps for the wearable using the WatchKit SDK.

As a reminder, pre-orders for the Apple Watch begin on April 10, with a release date set for April 24. With Apple accepting app submissions with a little under a month to go, it looks like the Apple Watch will have a pretty good app ecosystem right out of the gate.

Dropbox to give web browser users better document preview features

Dropbox is currently rolling out a new update for its web browser users that promises a better preview experience for stored documents.

Dropbox says that the improvements will allow documents to load faster and look better while previewed on a web browser such as Safari on the Mac. Here’s what users can expect after the changes go live:

The biggest change you may notice is that we’ve redesigned the document toolbar at the bottom of the preview, so it adapts to the type of file you’re previewing — across documents, spreadsheets, presentations, and PDFs, on any major web browser.

So whether you’re presenting a board deck or viewing a wedding shower invite, you’ll be presented with the right set of options, like zooming in, going to full-screen mode, flipping between pages, or printing straight from the preview. The new toolbar appears when you hover over the bottom of the screen, so it’s there when you need it but out of your way when you don’t.

Dropbox says all of its web browser users should be able to access the new document preview features over the next few days.
