iPhone and iPad help drive mobile shopping to record share of Black Friday sales

Adobe has released its initial annual online shopping data for the biggest shopping days of the year, Black Friday and Thanksgiving Day, showing record growth in online shopping from mobile devices driven largely by the iPhone and iPad. Overall, while tablets saw their share of shopping traffic drop a bit, smartphones generated a record share of sales. From Adobe: While mobile shopping saw strong growth with a 34 percent share of sales, the role of tablets continued to decline. Tablets drove 15 percent of sales on Black Friday, a 2 percent decrease YoY. Smartphones generated a record 22 percent share of sales, 70 percent more than in 2014. iPhones and iPads continued to drive the majority of mobile sales with 67 and 84 percent respectively. In all, mobile shopping generated $583 million in sales on Black Friday and $639 million on Thanksgiving day. Early version of Cortana for iPhone reportedly available for some beta testers

Microsoft has reportedly begun closed beta testing for its Cortana digital assistant app for the iPhone. The beta is being distributed by Apple’s TestFlight beta software system. According to leaked screenshots from the app, Microsoft says that Cortana on the iPhone can be set up so that it can help with organizing meetings during the day, set up reminders on a Windows 10 PC that can be replayed on the iPhone and more. One tester has already posted up screenshots from the Cortana iPhone beta on the Warenotice site. Since Testfight is designed to only offer up to 2,000 testers for an iOS beta app, it’s likely that only a few people have gotten access to try it out. There’s no word yet if Microsoft plans to release a more public version of Cortana for the iPhone before it is officially launched. Source: TechCrunch, Warenotice …

iPad, Apple Watch lead to record online sales for Target on Thanksgiving

Major U.S. retailer Target had its biggest online shopping day of the year on Thanksgiving, with Apple devices helping to set records. Sales yesterday outpaced the record sales that Target saw during Thanksgiving 2014, and were driven by three major items: iPads, the Apple Watch, and Nintendo’s Wii U. According to Forbes, iPads were the top selling item at Target on Thanksgiving, with the retailer selling an average of one iPad every second throughout the day. While the Apple Watch was the second-most sought-after item online, it was also very popular in stores. The Beats Solo2 headphones also appear to have been among the top products, both online and in stores. While not offering direct discounts on most of its iPad stock, Target is currently offering a $100 Target gift card with the purchase of several models of the iPad mini 4, iPad Air, and iPad Air 2. You can also get a $100 gift card with the purchase of an Apple Watch. Shop for an iPad at Target Shop for an Apple Watch a…

Australian banks accused of boycotting Apple Pay by Labor party official

Apple Pay may have recently launched in Australia, but so far none of the country’s banks have decided to support it. Now a member of the country’s Labor party has accused the banking industry of deliberately freezing out support for Apple Pay in favor of their own systems. At the moment, only American Express supports Apple Pay in Australia. The Sydney Morning Herald reports that Labor’s spokesman on digital innovation, Ed Husic, has contacted the Australian Bankers’ Association and the Reserve Bank of Australia to voice his concerns on Apple Pay’s use in the country. Mr Husic, who has been a vocal critic of Apple’s pricing in the past, has written to RBA governor Glenn Stevens, expressing dismay at claims retail banks have ”effectively boycotted” the new payment system. ”Australian consumers should not be denied the ability to make payment choices that are openly available to consumers globally,” Mr Husic wrote. ”No doubt some will argue this move by the banks is anti-competit…
