Apple said to be in talks to produce original TV shows for iTunes

Apple is reportedly in talks with Hollywood studios and producers over bringing exclusive original TV content to iTunes and the Apple TV. With talks said to be led by Internet Software and Services SVP Eddy Cue, Apple reportedly hopes to announce at least some original content deals later this year. From The Street: The Cupertino-based tech giant began sounding out Hollywood’s creative community late last year, but has yet to sign any agreements, according to two people with knowledge of the overtures. One plan is to have deals in place so Apple can announce exclusive content as part of a cable-like offering in September, when it is expected to unveil its iPhone 7, said one of the people. Taking the original content route would put Apple in the same entertainment arena as Netflix and Amazon, both of which have found great commercial and critical success with their original content. This report comes as Apple’s rumored efforts to launch a small bundle-based streaming TV servic…

The persistence of iPhone

The reports of the iPhone’s death have been greatly exaggerated. In the wake of Apple’s recent quarterly financial results report, there’s been a lot of talk about what happens if the company has truly reached the peak of iPhone sales — and what must come next in order for Apple to keep growing. The iPhone is a once-in-a-decade (if not once-in-a-lifetime) product, and won’t be replaced on Apple’s revenue chart any time soon. And that’s okay, for a whole bunch of reasons. What goes up… stays up It’s easy to assume — in part due to language commonly used by growth-obsessed investors — that the iPhone is in free fall. Not so much: iPhone sales set a record last quarter. What’s actually concerning investors is the rate of change — the idea that we’ll never see an iPhone sales quarter bigger than this one, or at least not much bigger. The days of enormous iPhone growth may have reached its end. If you’re comparing the iPhone’s life cycle to that of Apple’s iPod, there’s…

BT completes its acquisition of EE

BT has successfully escaped the gauntlet of regulatory approvals and is now able to complete the company’s purchase of EE. Picking up and absorbing the largest UK mobile operator, the £12.5 billion deal is a victory for BT, which has plans to enter the competitive mobile industry once more. 31 million EE customers will be included in the deal, which will put BT in a strong position against the competition. BT already offers mobile phone options and EE has a limited TV and broadband service, but combining the two companies together to offer complete packages would make sense to prevent overlap. However, it’s not just EE and BT who have plans to join forces. Eyes will now switch focus to Hutchison Whampoa (owner of Three) who has hinted at a potential purchase of Telefonica’s O2. Simply put, it’s gearing up to be quite the period for mobile networks in the UK. Source: 4-Traders, via: Engadget …
