Share your iPhone and Apple Watch setup with Homescreen.me

If you’ve ever struggled to come up with the perfect iPhone or Apple Watch setup, check out Homescreen.me for inspiration.

You may remember Homescreen.me — the site has been public since 2012. Its goal has always been to give you a place to share your iPhone Home screen in a central location at a link that’s easier to remember than an auto-generated url from a photo-sharing service.

Some time after launching the site, the team realized it’d be pretty nifty to have an iOS app for Homescreen.me — that way you could do the screenshotting, sharing, and browsing all on the same device. Unfortunately, after a successful beta period, the app was rejected by Apple. You can learn all about that on the Homescreen.me blog.

In the end, the team took what they’d learned from iOS, applied it to the web, and relaunched Homescreen.me site.

Shine bright with this fireworks-filled Wallpaper Wednesday

Don’t let your home screen fall into a rut — switch out your wallpaper!

Wallpapers are important. They can give our phone a new feel, even if only for a little while. Some of us change wallpapers as often as we change shirts (sometimes to match), while some of us set one wallpaper and forget it, and that’s a shame. A good wallpaper can be a pick-me-up, can remind us of better times (and upcoming times). They can show off what’s important to us, be it a picture of the grandkids or an emblem of your favorite house in Game of Thrones. In an effort to brighten your screen, and maybe your day, we present an offering of wonderful wallpapers to grace your smartphone.

If you’ve got a wallpaper you use everywhere, share it in the comments below! We’re always looking for something new. Now get your wallpaper picker ready and see what’s in store this week.

Apple audio chip supplier releases MFi Lightning headphone development kit

With the iPhone 7 rumored to be ditching its headphone jack, Apple audio chip supplier Cirrus Logic has released its MFi Headset Development Kit for the creation of Lightning-based headphones. The reference platform is compliant with Apple’s MFi accessories program, and is meant to help manufacturers develop these headsets quickly.

From Cirrus Logic:

The MFi Headset Development Kit demonstrates the advantages of Lightning-connected headsets over conventional analog headsets. For example, digital connectivity with an integrated, high-performance DAC and headphone driver delivers high-fidelity audio to the headphone speakers. In addition, Lightning-connected headphones can interact with an iOS app to create a more custom audio experience, such as personalized EQ settings.

The kit comes with a reference design, along with a development board. The design is meant to be adapted to any headphone form factor, from earbuds to over-the-ear cans. The kit can be obtained by lic…

On June 29, 2007 people were lining up in droves outside Apple Stores to be among the first to own a an iPhone!

It was a very different world back then. What few smartphones there were typically had small screens and hardware keyboards, locked the web in WAP and proxy, and a simple sticky notes app cost $30… if you could find it on one of the dozens of scattered online stores. The iPhone, by comparison wasn’t a breath of fresh air, it was a breath of fresh experience.

Apple had worked for over two years on the Purple Experience Project: A capacitive touch interface that made direct manipulation feel like a reality, on inertial scrolling and rubber banding, pinch-to-zoom and cover-flow that made interaction …
