Marco Arment just released a public beta of his new podcast encoder

Marco Arment’s new podcast encoder, Forecast, allows users to embed artwork, chapter markers, and other metadata more easily than ever before.

Podcasters rejoice: Marco Arment, the creator of iOS podcast player app Overcast, announced today that he’s officially releasing his podcast MP3 encoder — called Forecast — as a public beta. The aim of Forecast is to essentially make the annoying hassles of podcast post-production a thing of the past, allowing producers to skip the tedious, manual steps it takes to publish each episode.

With Forecast, podcasters can pretty effortlessly embed artwork, title, and description in each MP3 without needing to edit it in iTunes. If you name all of your audio files using the same prefix and numbering system each time, Forecast will even autofill the artwork and other info for you, further cutting down on the amount of labeling. You also no longer have to manually input duration or file size, and instead can simply use Forecast’s quick co…

Splatoon 2 is one of those games where there’s always someone better than you possibly right around the corner. Any competitive edge helps, whether you’re a rookie with a starter kit or a veteran Squid Kid about to top your Salmon Run record.

We’ve got some guidance to get the most out of your game!

Motion Controls

When playing Splatoon in Handheld mode, motion controls might be a bit difficult to use. To turn them off, you can hit X to access the menu, use R to scroll to the far right, and go down to Handheld mode to turn it off. This will make it a bit easier to play, especially if you’re in a moving vehicle.

You can also disable the motion controls for TV/ Tabletop mode as well. The motion controls are used in order to move the camera, so if you’d rather do that with an analog stick, I would disable them.

Get Familar

An easy way to get an understanding for the game is knowing which areas and …

Connection errors in Mail using iPhone or iPad? Here’s the fix!

The iPhone and iPad’s built-in Mail app is a great way to get all your email for all your accounts in one place. But just like any other app, it isn’t completely error-proof either. Other common error messages include ”server not responding” messages and ”password incorrect” errors. If you’re plagued with any of these messages, here are some steps that can help you troubleshoot and resolve the problem in no time!

Step 1: Run the latest version of iOS

The first iOS 11.0 version had a bug in it which impacted email accounts hosted by Microsoft on Outlook.com or Office 365, or an Exchange Server 2016 running on Windows Server 2016. Attempts to send mail were met with this cheery response: ”Cannot Send Mail. The message was rejected by…

Snapchat’s new Algorithm: Everything you need to know

Axios Visuals

There’s a new Snapchat algorithm in town, and you might not actually be all that upset about it (COUGH INSTAGRAM COUGH)

Typically when people hear that a favourite app of theirs is implementing an algorithm or doing a bit of a redesign as to which content gets noticed first, the reaction is not exactly positive.

To this day, people are still upset with Instagram’s all-over-the-place nonsense of an algorithm, and even apps like Facebook have taken a bit of a verbal beating in regards to how and when you see certain content, posts, and pictures on your timeline.

But now Snapchat is throwing its hat (or ghost costume?) into the algorithm ring, and it might actually be a good thing.

It’s vitally important that future content feeds are built on top of a human-curated supply of content – rather than just anything that surfaces on the Internet… With the upcoming redesign of Snapchat, we are separating the social from the media, and taking an important step f…

WhatsApp updated with picture-in-picture mode for YouTube videos

There are some new features from WhatsApp that are pretty exciting: here’s what you need to know!

WhatsApp is known for connecting the world through it’s free messaging platform. You can send and receive text, make phone calls, send photos, and now, with the latest update, there are a few new features that the app has added to its arsenal:

Users can now record longer, more detailed voice messages by swiping up to lock the recording, which’ll make it easier to record without pressing your finger down, and now when you open a YouTube link, you can play it directly in the app.

Free – Download Now
Another neat new feature is the pick-in-picture option.

With picture-in-picture, you can also keep watching the video while you navigate to another chat.

This is similar to how you can scroll through YouTube on your phone while the video you were originally watching gets shrunken and moved to the lower right corner of the screen.

What’s app, doc?

Is there a specific feature that you’…

Learn to code with Apple’s free Hour of Code workshops

If you’ve ever wanted to get a start in coding, you can head to your local Apple Store this coming week for a free lesson.

Yesterday, Apple announced that in celebration of Computer Science Education Week, registration for its fifth annual round of Hour of Code classes is officially open to anyone who is interested in learning to code. There are thousands of sessions available at all Apple Stores from December 4 through 10, many of them focused specifically on young aspiring coders. However, coders of all ages are, of course, welcome.

The topics of classes cover everything from the absolute basics to app design, and there’s even a special Kids Hour workshop showing youngsters how to bring Star Wars Sphero droids to life by programming their movements on an iPad. If your kiddo doesn’t have their own droid and device, no worries — they’ll be provided for use during the workshop free of charge.

In addition to the workshops, Apple is offering a brand new coding challenge in the …
