What’s new on Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Hulu in December

Yep. It’s once again time for the holidays.

Now that we’re out of the Thanksgiving season, let’s really get down to it. December. The feel-good month. Unless you don’t feel good. Or maybe it’s a mix of both. Whatever. The point is that it’s a going to be another big moth for original programming on the streaming services — and perhaps none as big as the return of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. If you somehow missed the first season, it’s the story of a young woman who basically has everything going for her, until her husband is an idiot. She drunkenly falls into the world of stand-up comedy in the mid-20th Century in New York City.

And, yeah. It’s funny. And Season 2 is promising to be even better.

Over on Netflix, Fuller House is back for its fourth season, bringing some of the best of the ’90s well into the aughts. Or if the holiday thing is more your jam, Netflix has a world of seasonal fare coming your way. (Here’s the full list of holiday shows.)

And on Hulu, you ca…

Can you use Siri with Ultimate Ears Megaboom 3?

Best answer: The Megaboom 3 doesn’t support Bluetooth hands-free profile (HFP) so it doesn’t have speakerphone functionality. This means it won’t work with products like Apple Siri or Google Voice like previous Boom speakers. Therefore, we recommend the Megablast instead. If you need the best Siri compatibility, however, go with the HomePod.

Amazon: Megablast ($250)
Apple: HomePod ($350)
Amazon: Megaboom 3 ($200)
HomePod and nothing else for now

To date, the only speaker that is fully integrated with Siri is Apple’s corded HomePod. This type of integration allows you to use so-called ”hot words” to ask questions, control music, and more. Some speakers are compatible with Apple AirPlay 2, which means you can use the voice assistant on your iPhone or iPad to control playback on the speaker. Again, this isn’t full compatibility, but it still allows you to use Siri, which the Megaboom 3 won’t allow.

If not Megaboom 3 …

Interestingly, if you want to use tap-to-talk and gain Apple Si…

Should you get a Husqvarna or Robomow robotic lawn mower?

We’re always looking to make our homes just a bit smarter with everything from automated lights to robotic lawn mowers, letting us (and you) build the home of tomorrow, today.

Husqvarna Automower 315X

King of the lawn

$2,000 at Amazon

Pros

Good battery life
Handles almost any lawn
Weatherproof
Better smartphone control
Cons

Setup can be a pain
Pricey
The Automower 315X can handle just about anything your lawn can throw at it and you can control it with your smartphone. While certainly not the cheapest in the field, it’s definitely worth the extra money.

Robomow RC 304

Best for a budget

$1,000 at Amazon

Pros

More control options
Edge mode
Anti-theft mode
Cons

Bluetooth remote control only
Much smaller lawn coverage
At half the price of the 315X, the Robomow RC 304 is a great option if you’re on a budget. It’s a versatile little mower but keep in mind that it comes with some compromises.

First, we built robots to clean our floors; now we’ve got them mowing our lawns….

Save yourself a trip to the mechanic with the $12 Kobra OBD-II code reader

Ugh, what is your car trying to tell you anyway?

This Kobra OBD-II Wi-Fi car code reader is down to $11.99 on Amazon when you clip the 15% off on-page coupon and use the promo code 5ZE3CSHJ. It sells for $20 without the code and we haven’t seen a sale on these readers since June. Make sure the seller for this deal and the ones below is ”E-Tech Distributors” or the code won’t work. This version uses Wi-Fi, so it’s compatible with iOS, Android, and, for the one person who just woke up from several years of sleep, Windows phones.

The problem with Wi-Fi is you can’t always get it near your car. You can get this Bluetooth car code reader for $7.77 with code QS7OPFOD and the 15% off on-page coupon. That’s down from a price of $13, but the Bluetooth version does not work with iOS.

Skip using the phone altogether with Kobra’s direct OBD-II professional diagnostic car scanner for $12.95 with code FEB2A6OE and the 15% off on-page coupon. That’s about $6 off what it normally goes for. You won…

Apple releases tvOS 12.1.1 beta 4 for developers

Installing the tvOS 12.1.1 beta is more complex than an iOS or macOS beta, but it’s also for developers only.

Just like with iOS and macOS, Apple makes beta versions of tvOS available for developers to test. But unlike the betas for other systems, installing it on the Apple TV (4th generation) or Apple TV 4K is more complicated than a simple download and go. If you’re a developer and you’re having trouble getting the tvOS beta installed, here’s what you need to do.

Unlike Apple’s other operating systems, you can’t back up your Apple TV; as such, Apple offers two options for updating tvOS: over the air, which just updates the system; and via USB-C, which restores the device to its factory settings.

What’s new in the tvOS 12 beta?

November 29, 2018: Apple releases tvOS 12.1.1 beta 4 for developers

Apple has just released the fourth tvOS 12.1.1 beta for developers. If you already have a previous tvOS beta installed, proceed to System > Software Updates and download away. If you’…
