Google Play Music launches a free, ad-supported, version in the US

Google is rolling out a free version of Google Play Music in the US, supported by ads.

Just ahead of the Apple Music launch next week, Google Play Music now has a new option that allows users to listen to its library of songs for free. The new version is available in the US only at the moment and is supported by ads. The free version is available now on the web, but will become available on the iOS and Android Google Play Music apps later this week. The free version still allows users to store and play up to 50,000 songs from their own collection.

Google is still offering a $9.99 a month subscription plan for Google Play Music. Besides eliminating ads, it includes offline and background features for YouTube music videos.
