Apple extends Apple Card payment deferral through April

It's the same concession made in March.

What you need to know

  • Apple Card users will be able to defer their April payments without incurring interest.
  • The move is designed to ease financial pressure amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • You can apply by messaging a support representative directly from the Wallet app.

Apple is extending its Apple Card payment deferral through April, meaning customers can defer their April payments without incurring interest.

As reported by Bloomberg:

Apple Inc. and Goldman Sachs Group Inc. are letting Apple Card users defer April payments without incurring interest to ease financial pressure from the economic disruption caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The card, backed by Goldman, offered the same program for March payments. Apple Card users need to opt in to the program by messaging a support representative via the Wallet app on an Apple device.

In an email to Apple Card customers it stated:

"We understand that the Covid-19 situation poses unique challenges for everyone and some customers may have difficulty making their monthly payments... If you previously enrolled in the Customer Assistance Program in March, you will need to enroll again."

On March 14, Apple told its customers that they would be able to skip their March payments interest-free because of the coronavirus pandemic.

This is now the second month in a row that Apple and Goldman Sachs, the bank behind Apple Card, have allowed users to defer payments. It is unclear at this stage just how long the two could continue to allow customers deferring, or how long they would be willing to extend the service.

Apple has also launched a COVID-19 screening website and app for customers to use, which will give them information about symptoms of the virus, information on social distancing and guides on testing.
