The future is here as macOS Big Sur is announced

That latest version of macOS has arrived! MacOS 10.16 Big Sur includes a lot of interesting new and updated features starting with its refreshed look. Here's a brief look at what's coming to your computer later this year.

What's new with macOS 10.16 Big Sur?

Apple has refreshed the design for macOS significantly both as an operating system and in specific apps. Mail and Photos look at like iOS/iPadOS now. And Notification Center now includes a single view. Widgets, which were also announced for iOS 14, are also coming to macOS.

  • Messages: Now includes mobile features a new search, Memojis, and effects. Group enhances are coming also.
  • Apple Maps: On Mac, you'll find a new version and design. It offers all-new guides, ETA of friends, and much more.
  • Mac Catalyst: Lots of new features are arriving for developers from mobile to Mac.
  • Safari: The native web browser includes a significant update in Big Sur. New features include a privacy report for every site visited and password monitoring. Extensions has also been refreshed and you can now decide which sites are allowed to access these extensions and for how long. You'll also find a custom Home page feature in Safari that includes the ability to add shortcuts. Built-in language translation has also been added.

macOS 10.16 Big Sur is a free update that will arrive in the Mac App Store this fall.
