Where to preorder the MacBook Air M2: reservations still live

If you're looking where to preorder an M2 MacBook Pro, you've come to the right place. This is one of the most anticipated launches of the year, intriguing and exciting potential buyers at WWDC a few weeks ago. This complete redesign of the MacBook Air not only features Apple's latest, blazing fast M2 chip, but a brand new aluminum chassis that's available in some new colors, including the almost black midnight and shimmering golden starlight. That new chassis has also changed shape from the previous version, looking like a slimmed-down version of the M1 MacBook Pros of 2021.

The MacBook Air will be released today, July 15. You can still preorder a machine, but, as many other users are finding, delivery dates have slipped back to far beyond release, especially if you've specced up your machine from either of the base configurations. We've still gathered together all the different places where you can preorder an M2 MacBook Air in both the US and the UK.

Where to preorder the MacBook Air M2 in the US

The M2 MacBook Air can be preordered from pretty much any retailer that stocks Apple computers. B&H Photo has the Air M2 ready to preorder, and will let you completely spec all the aspects of your machine with a couple of chip options, 8, 16 and 24GB RAM configurations and SSD selections up to 2TB. Amazon has less options available, with a choice between 256GB or 512GB SSD up for grabs, but you can still preorder from the online retail giant. You can of course hop over to Apple and spec out a machine there, but expect shipping dates to have slipped as other customers got their preorders in much earlier.

B&H Photo

From $1199 at B&H Photo

You can preorder an M2 MacBook Air from B&H photo, and you'll find a good deal of options available should you want more RAM or SSD storage. All the colors are available as well, so you can expect the pick of the crop.

Amazon

From $1199 at Amazon

Amazon also has the M2 MacBook Air available for preorder, but as with most Apple computers on third party retailers, there aren't many options. While you can choose your favorite color, you will only be able to choose between a 256GB or 512GB SSD.

Apple

From $1199 at Apple

Of course, if you really want to get the most options you can go to Apple itself. Here, you'll find a couple of processor options, SSD configurations of up to 2TB, and up to 24GB of RAM. That will force up the price of the machine, so be prepared to shell out for a top-spec machine.

Where to preorder the MacBook Air M2 in the UK

The UK has a few options if you're looking to preorder an M2 MacBook Air. There's department store John Lewis that has machines that you can... look at? The preorder button has disapeared ahead of tomorrows release, but you can still see what offers are available at the JL website. Currys has a couple of machines ahead of release, although you'll only be able to choose what color you want and whether you want a 256GB or 512GB SSD. Apple is the place where you can get the specs you want with your M2 MacBook Air, but you'll find that, like in the US, shipping dates have slipped beyond the release date.

John Lewis

From £1546 at John Lewis

Retailer John Lewis has the M2 MacBook Air as well, with some more options available. They also include some offers you won't find elsewhere, like 6 free months of Apple Music and Apple Arcade.

Currys

From £1249 at Currys

Currys will let you preorder an M2 MacBook Air, but they won't let you spec it out. You can choose your color, and whether you want a 256GB or 512GB SSD.

Apple UK

From £1249 at Apple

Apple will let you spec up your own machine, with more RAM options and SSD choices than anywhere else. There'll be all the colors too, including that stunning starlight option. Be prepared to shell out the big bucks for a fully upgraded machine - around £2500. Shipping dates have tumbled too - expect delivery datyes to be late July to early August.

When can I preorder the MacBook Air M2?

Now. As in, right now - it's available to preorder at the retailers above!

Why would I want a MacBook Air M2?

The M2 MacBook Air shakes up the Air line like the original did in 2008. While the M2 chip has already been placed into the 13-inch frame of the 2022 MacBook Pro, it'll be in this machine that most people will experience it. This new version of Apple's slimmest laptop will feature some big updates over the previous model as well - there's a bigger screen, at 13.6-inches, and a keyboard made of bigger, clickier keys. The chassis is the biggest improvement, with a complete overhaul that makes it look like a slimmer MacBook Pro 14-inch. This is the best slim MacBook that Apple has made for years - or so it appears. Check out our M2 MacBook Air review to see why it's worth five stars.

Why should I preorder a MacBook Air M2?

This is going to be a massive product launch, with loads of people looking to get their hands on the new MacBook Air. If you're looking for one, then preordering one may be your best bet on getting one on release.

What about the MacBook Pro M2?

We can tell you where to order a MacBook pro M2, but we can also tell you that buying a 13-inch MacBook Pro doesn't make any sense. If anything, this MacBook Air looks to be by far the more compelling option, sharing the same chip, SSD, and RAM options, only with a bigger and nicer screen and keyboard. For more information, we have a MacBook Air vs MacBook Pro (2022) to show you all the key differences.

If you're after a discounted MacBook, then we've got you covered with these MacBook Prime Day deals. We'd love to tell you to get a case for your M2 MacBook Air, but we have to tell you to be careful when looking for one instead - this laptop is completely different from the previous model, and some… unscrupulous case makers are selling their cases designed for the 2020 Air as if they will fit the new Air M2. They won't. Here are some of the best sleeves for the M2 MacBook Air that you'll find, though.
