Apple wins big in enterprise and education in 2015

JAMF Software, an organization that focuses on IT administrator tools and services, has released a report detailing a survey that shows Apple gained big ground in the enterprise and education sectors throughout 2015. In the enterprise, specifically, Mac, iPhone and iPad usage shot up significantly throughout the year. Apple products also scored highly in ease of use. Here are the highlights, from JAMF Software:

  • More than 96 percent of companies support Apple Enterprise participants saw an increase in the usage of Mac (68 percent), iPhone (46 percent), and iPad (36 percent) in 2015
  • 64 percent say that Mac is easier to manage than other computer platforms
  • 67 percent report that Mac will cut into the PC share over the next three years
  • 78 percent say that iPhone and iPad are easier to manage than other mobile device platforms

Similarly, the education market saw big gains in Apple device usage, with a majority of respondents indicating that the iPad is easier to manage than other platforms:

  • 94 percent of K-12 and 97 percent higher education organizations support the Apple platform
  • K-12 education participants report they saw an increase in the usage of Mac (42 percent) and iPad (36 percent) in 2015
  • Higher education participants report they saw an increase in the usage of Mac (57 percent) and iPad (29 percent) in 2015
  • 67 percent of K-12 and 81 percent of higher education respondents say iPad is easier to manage than other platforms

If this survey is any indication, it's clear that Apple has a bright future in both the enterprise and education markets. Both ease of use, management, security features and user preference look to be the driving forces. Given Apple's recent partnerships with IBM and Cisco to make a more concerted enterprise push, it will be interesting to see how the company expands in the sector in the coming years as well.
