How to use Time Travel on Apple Watch

Remember what was happening yesterday at this time? What's happening an hour from now? Your Apple Watch does.

Apple Watch has this great feature called "Time Travel" that lets you go back and forth in digital time to see everything that was or will be on display on your watch face at any given minute of the day.It doesn't just show you what was on your calendar on a previous date, either.

With the right complications set up, you can see the temperature, the phase of the moon, and much more. Whatever complications you have on your watch face, you'll be able to virtually go backward or forward in time more than a full day thanks to Time Travel.

How to activate Time Travel on Apple Watch

If you know how to use the Digital Crown, you know how to Time travel.

  1. Start at the Clock Face. If you're not there already, double press the Digital Crown.
  2. Turn the Digital Crown clockwise to virtually fast forward through time.
  3. Turn the Digital Crown counter-clockwise to virtually go back in time, .

How to choose a clock face with complications ideal for Time Travel

Apple Watch has 13 standard clock faces, plus the ability to create customized faces based off of the main ones. Some faces have room for a lot of complications while others don't even support Time Travel. Which watch face you choose dictates which complications you can Time Travel with.

  1. Start at the Clock Face. If you're not there already, double press the Digital Crown.
  2. Press firmly on the clock face until the clock face switcher appears.
  3. Swipe to the left or right to scroll through available clock faces.
  4. Select the clock face you wish to use.
  5. Set up the complications you wish to use.

The clock faces with Time Travel complications are:

  • Modular
  • Utility
  • Simple
  • Color
  • Chronograph
  • Mickey Mouse

The clock faces that do not support Time Travel are:

  • Time Lapse
  • Photo Album
  • Photo
  • Motion
  • X-Large

Select the clock face you wish to use and be sure to customize your complications for the full effect.

How to see different Time Travel features of the Astronomy watch face

The Astronomy watch face has a few unique and interesting Time Travel options that don't require any complications to work. You can watch the Earth rotate, the phases of the Moon, or the planets in our solar system as they spin.

If you haven't already, make sure you switch to the Astronomy clock face before proceeding.

  1. Start at the Clock Face. If you're not there already, double press the Digital Crown.
  2. Tap the moon icon in the lower left corner of the screen to view the moon phase.
  3. Tap the solar system icon in the lower right corner of the screen to view the solar system.
  4. Turn the Digital Crown clockwise to fast forward through time.
  5. Turn the Digital Crown counter-clockwise to go back through time.

How to see different Time Travel features of the Solar watch face

The Solar watch face shows you a curving graph of the sun's position. You can see along the curve what time the sun rises and sets, when dusk and dawn hits, and when the sun is directly above you.

If you haven't already, make sure you switch to the Solar clock face before proceeding.

  1. Double press the Digital Crown to go to the watch face.
  2. Turn the Digital Crown clockwise to fast forward through time.
  3. Turn the Digital Crown counter-clockwise to go back through time.
