U.S. Supreme Court will hear Apple and Samsung’s patent case

The U.S. Supreme Court has agreed to hear arguments in the ongoing patent fight between Apple and Samsung. Samsung originally filed a motion with with the court late last year, stating its belief that the jury in the case didn't have sufficient information to understand the issues at hand. The company is also looking to change how design patent damages are calculated.

The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday stepped into the high-profile patent fight between the world's two fiercest smartphone rivals, Apple and Samsung, agreeing to hear Samsung's appeal of what it contends were excessive penalties for copying the patented designs of the iPhone.
While the court agreed to hear the case, a date for arguments will be set at some later date.
In the original 2012 verdict in the case, Samsung was ordered to pay Apple over $1 billion over various patent infringements. In subsequent appeals, Samsung has managed to shrink that number to $548 million, which Samsung paid Apple last year.
