How to use Activation Lock on Apple Watch

If you lose your Apple Watch, you can lock it down so that no one else can use it.

You know how you can use Find My iPhone to protect your iPhone data and keep strangers out of it? Well, with watchOS 2, you can do the same on your Apple Watch. If your Apple Watch goes missing, you can use Activation Lock to make it impossible for anyone to un-pair it from your iPhone or pair it with a new iPhone without entering your Apple ID and password.

Activation Lock also lets you mark your Apple Watch as missing, which will disable Apple Pay on Apple Watch and require your Apple ID and password to pair it again to a new device, even if the system was erased.

How to check that Activation Lock is enabled on Apple Watch

Activation Lock is automatically turned on when you turn on Find My iPhone on your iPhone (which you should already have enabled). You can double-check to ensure it is enabled on Apple Watch.

  1. Open the Watch app on your iPhone.
  2. Tap [Your Name]'s Apple Watch at the top of the page.

  3. Tap the info icon next to your Apple Watch.

If you see Mark as Missing then, Activation Lock is on.
