Pokémon Go Events: Celebi and Safari Zone Yokosuka LIVE!!

Safari Zone Yokosuka until September 2, Chikorita — and Moltres? — Day in September

Pokémon Go is intended to get you out and about, both on your own and with family and friends. One of the ways Pokémon Go tries to bolster activity is with events. Some of the events get splashy announcements and coincide with big public holidays. Others are quieter and more regular. Here's what's happened already and what's coming up next.

Current Pokémon Go Events

These are the Pokémon Go Events you can take part in right now! (Real-world events are location dependent, of course!)

Pokémon GO Safari Zone event in Yokosuka, Japan, until September 2

Pokémon Go has finally revealed the last of its big summer events and, as expected, it's all about Japan:

Yokosuka is an amazing city known for its fondness for American culture and its beautiful nature. Three city parks (Mikasa, Verny, and Kurihama) will be participating in this special event. Trainers will be able to find Pokémon not normally seen in Japan, such as the Grass- and Flying-type Pokémon Tropius, Unown, and more! While there will be many exciting Pokémon to catch throughout the event, Raid Battles will not be available at the event locations.

The Pokémon GO Safari Zone in Yokosuka is a free event, but those who wish to attend will need to apply through Yokosuka City's special website. Applications open Friday, July 6, at 10:00 a.m. JST and close Friday, July 20, at 10:00 a.m. JST, so don't delay if you're interested in attending! If applications exceed the capacity of the event, a drawing will be held by Yokosuka City to select the attendees. If selected, Trainers will receive a ticket containing a 2D barcode. Note that Trainers without a ticket will not encounter Pokémon at the event locations.

The Yokosuka Pokémon GO Safari Zone event will be held over the course of five days, but gameplay is designed to be a single-day experience. In order to give as many Trainers as possible the chance to take part, participation is limited to the day listed on each ticket. If a Trainer somehow manages to obtain multiple tickets, they will only be able to find special Pokémon on the day the first ticket is claimed.

In celebration of the Yokosuka Pokémon GO Safari Zone event, Pokémon such as Feebas and Torchic will be found more often throughout Japan. Additionally, Wingull will appear more frequently worldwide, and lucky Trainers may even encounter its Shiny form! To top it off, Professor Willow's Global Challenge will take place on September 1 and 2, giving Trainers all over the world the opportunity to unlock incredible bonuses while they take part in this special event.

But, um, Shiny Wingull at least... right?

Entei returns for a limited time

Entei, the Legendary Fire Beast, is back in Pokémon Go for the entire month of September as the Field Research weekly breakthrough award.

Happy catching.

Celebi 'A Ripple in Time' special research is live!

Celebi, the mythical Pokémon of Gen 2, has finally found its way into Pokémon Go!

Professor Willow needs your help once again! It seems he's been tracking the Mythical Pokémon Celebi, which has mysteriously appeared somewhere nearby. Can you help him locate the Time Travel Pokémon? Prepare yourself for August 20, when this Special Research becomes available worldwide!

Along the way to discovering Celebi's time-shifting nature, you'll encounter tasks that will test your skills as a Trainer. Complete tasks to gain XP, receive useful items, and even encounter certain Pokémon on your journey! You can begin completing Special Research on Celebi at any time as long as you have done the third group of tasks related to the Special Research on Mew, and actively finish tasks related to both at your own pace!

For those who have already completed the exclusive Pokémon GO Fest Special Research and have obtained the Time Travel Pokémon, completing this new Special Research will earn you a new bounty of Candy to power up your Celebi.

Regirock rolls into Pokémon Go Legendary Raids

The last of the Legendary Titans of Hoenn is now available in Legendary Raids.

As another season of Pokémon's legendary year comes to a close, a Legendary Pokémon originally discovered in the Hoenn region will emerge—Regirock, which begins its domination of Raid Battles on August 16!

Regirock, the Rock Peak Pokémon, has arrived on the scene and will take over Raid Battles from the Steel-type Legendary Pokémon Registeel until September 20. This Rock-type Legendary Pokémon has a sturdy defense, but it's weak to Water-, Grass-, Fighting-, Ground-, and Steel-type attacks.

Machamp is still your friend here. Go get those rocks!

Rumored Pokémon Go Events

Pokémon Go has been hinting at Gen 4 since the Go Fest Chicago poster went up in early July. Now, a new rumor has surfaced with some claims about when exactly we might start seeing the first Sinnoh Pokémon.

From Reddit:

  • A new event is coming next week, the "Evolution Event
  • Gen 4 evolutions of previous gen pokemon (they mentioned Magmortar, Electrivire and Rhyperior specifically) (note: this looks like the first wave of gen 4, just like babies were in gen 2 and halloween in gen 3)
  • New evolution items, including elemental stones (not sure about this, they never had fire stone and such so I'm confused)
  • Double XP for evolving and spinning pokestops
  • Pokemon max storage increased to 2000
  • Increased rate of evolution items from pokestops
  • Increased spawn rate of evolved pokemon
  • Gen 3 evolutions finally released in the wild (except Milotic)
  • New quests that reward evolution items
  • New raids with previous evolution item pokemon (they mention Scizor as example)
  • New shop boxes with lucky eggs and raid passes
  • We will get a new update before the event

Guess we'll have to wait and see! Meanwhile, keep getting those high stat candidates and as much candy as you can!

Pokémon Go Moltres Day in August or September?

Articuno Day followed the big European event. Zapdos Day followed the big North Americans event. So, the general assumption is Moltres Day will follow the big Asian event: Pokémon GO Safari Zone from Yokosuka, Japan, from August 29 to September 2.

No official confirmation yet, much less a date, but September 8 seems possible.

Upcoming Pokémon Go Events

Pokémon Go September 22 Community Day with... Chikorita

It's official:

A Grass-type Pokémon originally discovered in the Johto region, Chikorita will appear in the wild for three hours. And if you evolve a Bayleef into Meganium during that three-hour window, your Meganium will know a special move to be announced later. Put those TMs away, Trainers! This move will be available only to Meganium caught or evolved during Community Day.

3x XP for catches will be in effect. No word on the special move yet, but Frenzy Plant has to be a possibility.

3-hour Lures will be in effect, as usual, we'll have to wait and see for the rest. Times, though, should remain the same

Community Day: Everything you need to know

2018 Pokémon Go Events: The potentials!

Based on past events, there are a few guesses we can make about future events. First, regional holidays don't mean regional events. Halloween isn't an internationally observed occasion but the event was worldwide. U.S. Thanksgiving is only celebrated in the U.S., and while it was an event in 2016 it gave way to the Global Catch Challenge in 2017.

Also, Pokémon Go has multiple levers to pull. The game can increase rewards, like candy, XP, and stardust. It can decrease requirements, like walking distance. It can increase spawn rates for all or specific Pokémon, like pink colored Pokémon or water-types, and create limited edition Pokémon just for events, like Party Hat Pikachu. It can also give away items or increase their duration, like 1-use Incubators or 8-hour Lures.

Pokémon Go can have events to aid in charitable causes, like the highly localized tsunami-relief event in Japan that featured Lapras or Snorlax exclusively for a week. There was also an event simply to promote the new streaks and bonuses. So, if they want to maintain momentum and there's too long a gap between proper occasions, Pokémon Go can invent their own.

You know what they say, though: The best indicator of future (Pokémon Go) events is...

Past Pokémon Go Events

The best indicator of future behavior is past behavior. So, to look forward to the next Pokémon Go events, it's helpful to look back at the events that have already run.

Here's your complete list of all the Pokémon Go Events coming up soon!
