How to hide (and unhide) purchases from the Mac App Store

If you make a lot of purchases from the Mac App Store, your Purchased tab can get very unwieldy. Fortunately it's easy to fix.

The Purchased tab in the Mac App Store shows you all the apps you've downloaded, including those from Apple like Keynote, Pages, Numbers, GarageBand and iMovie. Free apps and paid apps alike appear there — literally everything you've downloaded from the Mac App Store. This tip helps you tame that Purchased list so you only see what's still relevant to you.

To hide Mac App Store purchases

  1. Hold down the command key and press the spacebar to launch Spotlight, then type "App Store." Open the Mac App Store.
  2. If you're not already signed in, click Sign In and enter your Apple ID and password.
  3. Click on the Purchases tab.
  4. Find the software you'd like to hide, hold down the control key and click anywhere (or right-click on the item. Click on Hide Purchase... then click on the Hide Purchase button to confirm your decision.

Et voilà! The purchase has been hidden.

To unhide Mac App Store Purchases

  1. Launch the Mac App Store and sign in, as outlined above.
  2. Click on the Account link on the Mac App Store's main page. Sign in using your Apple ID and password.
  3. Under "Hidden Items," click the Manage link.
  4. Unhide the items you wish to make visible.
  5. Click on the Done button to finish.

That's it! Let me know if you have any questions.
