Snapchat may do away with touch-to-view, working on ’unique experience’ for Apple Watch

Snapchat's requirement to hold your finger down to view snaps may eventually go away, but an Apple Watch app may still be a ways out.

Speaking to Kara Swisher and Walt Mossberg at Code Conference this evening, Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel said that the company may eventually do away with the requirement to hold a finger down on the display to view snaps. Additionally, when pressed about an Apple Watch app, Spiegel says that the company has waited to approach the platform with a unique experience.

As reported by Re/Code, Spiegel says that the need to hold a finger to the display to view snaps was initially to prevent people from taking screenshots. However, that may change in the future:

"I think, for us, it's holding us back from longer videos being watched on our service," Spiegel said onstage. So will that change? Yes, Spiegel said — more or less. "We try not to ruin surprises, but that may be in the cards."

When pressed about a possible Snapchat experience on the Apple Watch, Spiegel says that the company has approached the possibility with caution in order to come up with a unique experience. It's unclear if the company has something in the works at this very moment, but it seems that you may be waiting a while for the Snapchat experience to make its way to your Apple Watch.
