Maps in iOS 9 brings detailed transit maps to the fore

Maps in iOS 9 is getting a lot better with transit maps and much more.

If you use public transit on a regular basis, Maps in iOS 9 is about to get much better. The big new feature coming to the table is the addition of transit maps, including detailed views of public transportation lines in major cities.

Maps in iOS 9 will include new, large maps of transit stations, including the lines that run through them. Apple says that it has surveyed the lines from the ground to provide a detailed view of the entrances and exits to each line so they can give accurate walking directions to each line, hopefully helping you stay on time when trying to catch that train. The new transit Maps experience is initially rolling out to a variety of cities, including the following:

  • Berlin
  • Chicago
  • London
  • Mexico City
  • New York
  • Philadelphia
  • San Francisco
  • Washington D.C.
  • Beijing, Chengdu
  • Gungzhou
  • Hangzhou
  • Shanghai
  • Shenzhen
  • Wuhan
  • Xi'an
  • Zengzhou

In addition, Apple says that transit maps will be coming to 300 additional cities in China as well. Finally, Apple gave some stats about Maps, saying that they receive 5 billion user requests per week, which is 3.5-times higher than the next leading mapping app.
